Como una organización de base en los Estados Unidos cuya misión es abogar por la dignidad, el respeto, los derechos y el bienestar de los inmigrantes, además de trabajar para prevenir las deportaciones y la separación de familias, Alerta Migratoria NC cree firmemente y apoya a quienes buscan seguridad, estabilidad y oportunidad para todos los inmigrantes. La Caravana de migrantes es un ejemplo claro que demuestra la desesperación de millones de personas, la crisis de refugiados en todo el mundo, la inestabilidad y la pobreza que obliga a las personas a huir.

Las cinco mujeres que forman parte de la Junta Directiva y la Directora de Alerta Migratoria NC son ciudadanas mexicanas y nuestra organizadora principal es una mujer de Costa Rica. Denunciamos la violencia del gobierno Mexicano y los militares mexicanos hacia la #CaravanaMigrante. Es una hipocresía que el gobierno mexicano y sus ciudadanos denuncien el racismo, la xenofobia y las políticas estrictas de la Administración Trump, y que al mismo tiempo cometan los mismos actos y emiten la misma retórica hacia los inmigrantes centroamericanos.

Por lo tanto, exigimos que el presidente Enrique Peña Nieto, el presidente electo Andrés Manuel López Obrador, el gobernador de Chiapas Manuel Velásquez Cuello y el pueblo de México brinden un pasaje seguro a las mujeres, niños, y hombres de la #CaravanaMigrante de Honduras. Es mas, exigimos se les ofrezca asilo en Mexico a quienes lo pidan.

We, the undersigned, demand that President Enrique Peña Nieto, President-Elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the governor of Chiapas Manuel Velasquez Cuello, and the people of Mexico provide safe passage, respect the rights, dignity, and lives of the #MigrantCaravan from Honduras to the United States of America.

As a grassroots organization in the United States, whose mission is to advocate for the dignity, respect, rights and well-being of immigrants, as well as working to prevent the deportations and separation of families, Alerta Migratoria NC firmly believes in and stands with those seeking safety, stability, and opportunity in countries other than those in which they were born.

The Migrant Caravan speaks to the desperation of millions of people, the greater refugee crisis around the world, instability, and poverty that forces people to flee. The five women that sit on the Board of Directors and the Director of Alerta Migratoria NC are all Mexican nationals and our lead organizer is a woman from Costa Rica. We denounce the violence of the Mexican government and military on the Caravan. It is a hypocrisy that the Mexican government decry the racism, xenophobia, and stringent policies of the Trump Administration, while actively committing the same acts and spouting the exact same rhetoric towards Central American immigrants.

Therefore, we demand that President Enrique Peña Nieto, President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Chiapas Governor Manuel Velásquez Cuello and the people of Mexico provide a safe passage for the women, children, and men of the #CaravanaMigrante traveling from Honduras. Moreover, we demand that asylum be offered in Mexico to those who request it.

On October 4th, during his immigration hearing in Charlotte, the judge gave him one option: Accept voluntary departure. Ricardo has a $2,500 immigration bond that MUST be paid in full by Thursday, October 11, 2018 or he can expect to be immediately deported. If he pays his bond, he may continue to appeal and fight his case before his scheduled December departure.

Ricardo has been the sole provider and parent to 10-year-old Ashley after her biological parents abandoned her at birth. He is currently in the adoption process to adopt Ashley. He is also the caregiver to his disabled mother, a polio and breast cancer survivor. As a gay man, Ricardo’s life is in danger if he is deported to Mexico.

It is imperative we raise enough money to pay Ricardo’s immigration bond. Ashley needs her father, a life without him is one she cannot imagine. Please consider a donation to help Ricardo keep his family together.

En Agosto de 2018, Alerta Migratoria NC organizó un taller de dos días que reunió a los miembros de la coalición en persona por primera vez. Dejaron el santuario y se arriesgaron a la deportación para reunirse y abogar como colectivo por sus derechos.

The Colectivo Santuario (shown above) is an emerging national coalition of individuals living in sanctuary across the United States.

In August 2018, Alerta Migratoria NC hosted a two-day workshop that brought coalition members together in person for the first time. They left sanctuary and risked deportation to join together in unity and to advocate as a collective for their rights.

The members of this coalition are strong and resilient people – and they need to know they have our support.

There are currently six North Carolinians who have taken refuge from imminent deportation in churches across our state. Their names are Juana Tobar, Rosa Ortez-Cruz, Samuel Oliver, Oscar Canales, Eliseo Jimenez and Jose Chicas. “I have taken refuge at Umstead Park United Church of Christ in Raleigh because to give up on my immigration case is to give up on my family and I cannot do that,” says Eliseo, who has two US citizen children who will grow up without a father if he is deported. The #NCSanctuary6 need your voice and support to safely return to their homes and families without the imminent threat of deportation. In the spirit of family unity, I write to urge you, Congressman David Price, to do everything in your power to immediately stop the deportation of Juana, Rosa, Samuel, Oscar, Eliseo, and Jose.   

If Juana, Rosa, Samuel, Oscar, Eliseo, and Jose are deported, their families will suffer irreparable harm. In the case of Samuel, his US citizen son’s plan to attend college will be crushed should Samuel be deported. Oscar’s US citizen daughter is also planning to attend college but if he’s deported, she will have to give up on her future to enter the workforce and help her mother sustain the household. Juana and Jose will be deported to certain death since their reasons for migrating in the first place were to seek refuge from war and violence. Likewise, Rosa is an asylum seeker whose four children need her in order to subsist. To deport them is to sentence them to their death and would be a serious violation of human rights.

According to the last memo issued by the Department of Homeland Security, the Enforcement of the Immigration Laws to Serve the National Interest memo issued on February 2017, the favorable exercise of prosecutorial discretion should be made whenever the removal of an individual does not serve the national interest. It is on this basis that we call on Congressman David Price to lead our North Carolina delegates in Congress, including Congressman GK Butterfield, Congressman Ted Budd, Congressman Mark Walker, and Senators Thom Tillis and Richard Burr, to intervene in the cases of the #NCSanctuary6 to stop their deportation and allow their return home immediately.

Pedro, Walter, Josue, Wildin, Edwin, Santos and Bilmer were the victims of ICE raids in the last few weeks. All seven came to the United States fleeing gang and criminal violence.

Let us be clear, Pedro, Walter, Josue, Wildin, Edwin, Santos and Bilmer have no previous criminal record. None.

If Pedro, Walter, Josue, Wildin, Edwin, Santos and Bilmer are deported, this would go against our humanitarian principles and place their lives in grave danger.
